I read constantly as a child, and still do. When I wasn't in the library, I was under the bedcovers with a torch reading into the night. My favourite stories back then were the Famous Five, Malory Towers, and anything with ponies in it. Then I discovered Roald Dahl, and James Thurber's The Thirteen Clocks and The Wonderful O. I still reread these today, along with Frank Cottrell Boyce, Jenny Valentine and the American teen author John Green. If I had to pick one children's book as a desert island read though, it would be The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole, aged 13 and ¾. Without Adrian there would be no Rachel Riley, I am sure of it. |
